Research Paper

Oh wow, my research paper is... coming....

Actually, I think I now have a solid thesis:

Although video and computer games can affect the socializing and educational behaviors of elementary school children negatively by increasing aggression and decreasing academic performance, video and computer games should be used to educate in an engaging way and improve cognitive thinking through academically promoting games.

I think this can probably definitely be written in a more flowing manner, but I cannot think of how to construct it.  If you would like to help and make suggestions on how I can and should improve it, I welcome your help!  Please be blunt, I take no personal offense.

I have also done quite a bit of research on this subject and have come up with ten sources.  I plan to use some opposing viewpoints on why video games do not cause aggression in order to dispute them in my paper.  However, through all of this research, I have come to a conclusion that not all video and computer games are bad and can actually be quite useful for teaching purposes!

Think about it--once you start a video or computer game, it's hard to stop what with all those graphics, colors, and competitive side of yourself.  So I think--why don't we try to use video and computer games more instead of less, only use the cognitively enhancing and positively affecting games rather than violent games that seem to serve no other purpose than to recruit teenagers into the army and to prove to your friends that you can kill more Nazi soldiers than them.  I admit, that on the occasion when I try to pick up a controler and learn how to play, it's hard to stop (and I ususally only stop because I can never figure it out.)

When I hear boys talking about video games, though, they are able to list off guns and cheat codes off the top of their heads because video games are addicting, and in order for them to win, they have to know so many different combinations and weapons and when to utilize this information.

I think we can definitely channel this addictiveness into academically promoting games that are just as engaging, thus going with the times and using what we have to give the best education to students as possible.

  1. Well I really like your thesis. And having ten sources is pretty dang good. I really like how you think that video games can be used for good such as education

  2. Nice topic! Video games are so damaging to children's academic skills. They also make people more likely to be violent.

  3. Yes, they definitely can be used for good. It is so sad to see that they are mostly used for violence and such.
