I am a full tithe payer, and I am proud to be able to say that. However, recently I have been worrying about money and whether I will make it through to next month. For a few days I have been putting off writing that check for tithing because I am scared that I won't have the money for rent next month. Then, yesterday, I kept thinking and thinking about how I needed to pay my tithing. Then it hit me. The only times I have ever been scared to pay my tithing are during the times when I should be excited to hand that money over.
I rushed to my desk and pulled out my checkbook, writing out the sum for my tithing. I had stopped thinking about my rent and money worries. I had forgotten how much the Lord always blesses me when I pay my tithing. The second I finished writing that check, I had the prompting to check my email. Now my email account on the home page kept saying I did not have any new mail, but I went to the inbox anyways.
To my astonishment, the people that I work for where I get most of my income had sent me an email requesting me to work just enough days that would hold me over until the Summer. Of course, I cried, angry and upset at myself. How could I have forget how much the Lord blesses us when we keep His commandments? God is not one to get into debt with His children.
I prayed earnestly for forgiveness for my selfishness. But throughout this prayer, I kept thinking of a story we recently talked about in my New Testament class about how Peter was in prison, and all of his friends were fasting and praying for his release. An angel came and helped him out of the prison. When Peter went to the door of the house where his friends were praying for him, Rhoda answered, saw Peter, and told the friends. The friends did not believe her. Their faith wasn't perfect, yet a miracle was wrought.
That is how I feel. I know my faith isn't perfect. I just faced a test. But I am so glad to have paid my tithing and had that little miracle done for me. Miracles happen every day. We just need to stop and look for them. Even though we may not have perfect faith, it doesn't mean the Lord will stop His miracles.
